Acceptable Use
An acceptable use policy (AUP) is a policy regarding the use of the internet. AUPs are important as they ensure that users appropriately use the resources available to them. Schools have AUPs to ensure that students use the internet in a way that is relevant to schoolwork and is not disruptive to the learning process or inappropriate. This is crucial as the internet provides many resources that an benefit students and is, therefore, beneficial to use in the classroom, but also has inappropriate materials that should not be accessed by students. Therefore, AUPs ensure that students know what is expected of them in order to keep them from accessing inappropriate content online.

FAQs (click on the question for links to answers):
- Why can't I tell my best friend my password?
- Passwords should be kept secret because they allow access to all your personal information and access to change settings on your page or phone. They also give others access to sending messages that look like they are from you.
- Even though friends may not have bad intentions, giving them your password opens up the possibility of others finding out what your password is as they may overhear you telling them, see what you wrote down, or hear it from your friend. After all, if you couldn't keep it a secret, how can you expect them to? This could lead to others, who you would not trust, having access to your information and settings.

- What can you do if someone is being hurtful or bullying you using the internet or texting?
- Tell your parent(s), teacher, or another adult that you trust. DO NOT respond by attacking the person back. This will only make the situation worse and could end up with you getting in trouble too. Be sure to save the messages as you may need them for evidence of what was said (though you certainly don't need to continue reading them). Finally, you may need to change your settings or passwords or get a new account.
